General Discussion

Early in my automation career I believed something dangerous:"If automation passes, the system is safe."One release proved me wrong. All tests were green.CI pipeline passed.Deployment happened.Minutes later support reported users couldn't complete checkout. The issue? Our automation mocked the payment service. The real integration had changed.Automation verified the mock, not the system. That moment changed how I design tests. Now I always ask:Are we testing reality?Or just a simulation?Automation should reduce risk. But only if it tests real system behavior.Have you ever seen automation give a false sense of security?

Hi All,My name is Deepak Behera. I’m a Quality Engineering professional with around 19 years of experience in software testing, with a strong focus on test automation and AI‑driven QA practices. My background spans telecom and complex enterprise systems, where I’ve worked as a hands‑on QA engineer and quality leader, building robust automation suites and improving test strategies end‑to‑end. I hold a BE in Computer Science and an MBA in Information Systems, and I’m currently scaling my expertise towards QE Architect and managerial roles while also founding Vim‑Ana (www.vim-ana.org) , a startup in the UAV/drone space where disciplined testing and reliability are critical. In this community, I’m looking to both share and learn: sharing practical insights on test automation frameworks, API testing, AI‑assisted testing, and QA leadership, and learning from others on how they are evolving their quality strategies, tooling, and career paths. My LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hideepak/

On the ShiftSync website (https://shiftsync.tricentis.com/), I keep getting logged out every other day. Even when I select “Remember Me” before login, it doesn’t work, when I open the site, the default dashboard is visible and I have to click the Login CTA again and re-enter my credentials. Is anyone else experiencing this issue, or is it just happening to me?

In many workplaces, feedback becomes a routine activity. Meetings happen. Forms get filled. Comments are recorded. But expectations stay unclear, examples are missing, and next steps are vague. Over time, feedback turns into a process to complete rather than a responsibility to grow.A more useful way to think about feedback is as a learning tool, not a policy requirement. Effective feedback is grounded in facts, considers context, makes expectations explicit, and focuses on behavior rather than personality. Most importantly, it leads to clear actions and ongoing conversations, not one-time events. This shift is especially relevant in testing and engineering teams, where intent is usually good, but outcomes often fall short. Without structure and clarity, even well-meant feedback fails to create progress.Sharing this here to encourage reflection and discussion on how feedback is given, received, and used for real growth within teams.https://ujjwalkumarsingh.substack.com/p/feedback-from-p

I recently completed my preparation for the ISTQB CTFL-Foundation exam, and one thing I noticed is that the topics that seem easy in theory can become confusing in actual exam questions. For example, concepts like:Test design techniques (e.g., equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis) Test levels and types Psychology of testing Risk-based testingLook simple in the syllabus, but when presented in scenario-based questions, many candidates hesitate because the wording can be tricky.Initially, I focused mainly on reading the syllabus and memorizing definitions, but that wasn’t enough to confidently answer situational questions in the CTFL exam format. What helped most was practicing topic-wise questions and reviewing explanations of both correct and incorrect options.Another challenge many face is exam timing. If you’re not used to exam-style questions, you might spend too much time on some scenarios. My suggestion for CTFL aspirants:Try practicing questions from P2PExams in a time

Delegation of the tasks is important. This helps you to focus on important things for you in testing. Also, it helps others an opportunity to work on something different from their reglat tasks. Now, being a testers/lead/manager you might have delegated tasks to others.Which task(s) did you deleagte? And what worked well?

Hi team , Is there any certified course that I can explore in Lead manual testing with AI integrated tools Please suggest. Thanks,Divya M

September 9th is here, and that means it’s time to congratulate all QA professionals on their special day. Happy Testers’ Day! 💙Why today? On September 9, 1947, a dead moth was found stuck in a relay of the Mark II Aiken Relay Calculator. This caused a malfunction and went down in history as the very first “computer bug.” 🐛We, @Daria  @PolinaKr and @Mustafa (aka the ShiftSync team), want to celebrate all QA specialists and QA-to-be’s in our community and beyond. To help you grow, we’ve started building on-demand courses, like this one with Rahul Parwal  👉 Now we want to hear from you:👉 Which topics would you love us to create courses on?👉 What skills do you need to become an even better tester?Your input will directly shape the learning opportunities we build for you. 🚀Happy Testers’ Day once again. Let’s keep learning, testing, and growing together!

With AI transforming how we test and learn, I’ve found that staying curious—and plugged into the right spaces—makes all the difference. Personally, I’m always exploring:Shiftsync for its vibrant discussions Tosca support hub for troubleshooting and deep dives Ministry of Testing for insightful articles and community vibes LinkedIn (especially testing and software engineering mentors or leaders) for real-world wisdom Weekly testing newsletters for bite-sized updates Automation Guild podcasts for inspiration on the go Conferences by Rahul Shetty & The Test Tribe for networking and new ideas Udemy & YouTube courses whenever I want to quickly upskill or fill knowledge gaps Books as well.  There is a recent one by James Bach and Bolton -Taking Testing Seriously which I’m planning to have hands-on soon. But everyone has their own secret sauce for continuous growth and learning—so I’d love to hear what’s working for you! What are your favorite resources, tools, or communities helping y

Hello UK community!  I’m interested to know, as a community, where you go to consume your industry news and information.  Would you mind selecting one of the following options before Wednesday 26th November?  Thanks in advance!

I’m curious to learn from the community: what strategies have you found effective when working with managers who have a more authoritative or dominant approach? How can teams maintain collaboration, stay productive, and foster a positive work environment while navigating strong personalities or high-pressure leadership styles?I’d love to hear your experiences and tips for turning these challenges into opportunities for growth for both the team and personal development.

Hi everyone,I’m looking to understand how customer service automation tools can be effectively integrated into quality engineering and testing workflows. Specifically, I’m interested in solutions that can streamline support processes, handle routine inquiries, and free up teams to focus on higher-value tasks, all without compromising service quality.Has anyone here implemented such tools in a QA or testing environment? I’d love to hear about your experiences, lessons learned, and any best practices you’ve found for balancing automation with human oversight.
