SLAs and SLOs: how you determine performance engineering success

Performance tests, unlike many types of quality assurance, are often not a clear success or clear failure. There is nuance in interpretation, as most results contain many successful and unsuccessful data points. SLAs – Service Level Agreements – define the business objectives, and SLOs – Service Level Objectives – help you understand how the software components fit together.

This session will cover the fundamentals of SLAs and SLOs – what they are, why you should include them in your test design, how you determine them, as well as how to specifically implement SLAs and SLOs in NeoLoad. We will also cover interpreting the results at a high level, as well as numerous best practices and other pieces of advice to help smooth reporting performance results to business stakeholders.

BRYAN COLE: Director of Customer Engineering, Tricentis

Bryan has been an advocate for performance testing and engineering for the last two decades, working as a consultant, product manager, subject matter expert, solution architect, and enterprise architect. He believes performance is an attribute, not a feature, and is a strong proponent of a dedicated performance engineering discipline that involves participants from all aspects of the application development lifecycle. Bryan has led strategic conversations with hundreds of customers over the years and loves using stories and analogies to represent complex technical environments to people so that they can be easily understood. He lives in Toronto, Canada, with his wife and daughter, and is an avid student of science fiction and fantasy, history, and technology.
