I know it is hard to find the time to do extra work after work but do you have any side projects at the moment or plan on starting any? You can also write if you started a side project and never finished ( I know I had a few of those). I am really curios to see if people still do IT related content after work or if they do somenthing else. If you want I can even start: I try to post on my youtube channel at least once a week but it does show that I do not invest that much time in there at the moment.

Funnily enough, your side project is also my side project 😄

I’ve been trying to get a YouTube channel going for some time now, but have had a hard time working it into my schedule. I have the most energy in the morning, so my most recent plan is to wake up early before work starts and work on content while things are quiet. This is obviously hard to do if you’re the sort of person that likes to stay up late. I definitely fall victim to the “one more episode” trap with TV shows, or watching one more YouTube video (I literally could have been 30 minutes more rested today if I hadn’t chosen to watch Johnny Harris’ Somali Pirates video last night 💀)

But lately that’s been the goal- making choices that align more with what I want to accomplish. It’s not always easy though. Should I drink a glass of wine with friends or decline because I know I’ll sleep worse later if I do? I know I should go to the gym, but often after a long day at work it doesn’t sound super appealing (even though I know I’ll feel good afterward!)

There are plenty of other things I want to put focus towards (picking the guitar or piano back up, studying code, learning how to use Ableton), but only so many hours in a day. I’ve decided recently to invest in one thing more heavily (YouTube) and see how things go.

Similar to Sean, I have been also trying to get my YouTube channel going so when I am not doing the 9-to-5, I am usually tinkering with my home studio. The thing is, it is pretty costy to set up the studio, so I am mainly relying on IKEA and my creativity. :)

And geez, there are so many ideas for projects, but not enough time and energy to do them which is why I am happy that we have this community to share ideas.

My channel doesn’t exist 😄 I actually have a few videos finished, but don’t want to start releasing until I have 6 months of content as a buffer. I want to release 1 per week, so that means 24 videos before any of them go up 😼

My plan is to find a part-time job that I can do in the evenings/through the night. I have a really weird sleep cycle so i want to put it to good use :)

Haven’t created it yet, but I plan to do so in the future. For now, I am just building the studio for the broadcasts and videocalls. :)

@mmario.ffrohlich  that sounds interesting. What kind of part-times are you looking for? Are they test-related? :) And happy b-day btw. :)

@hungoboss thank you for the b-day wishes :) :)

Yeah, I would like to find something testing related. I mean, if I was offered some data-entry job/translation/transcription job or something like that, I would be open to that type of work too :)

I have some minor experience in blog/article writing, so that would be interesting thing to tackle too. Do you have something in mind ? :D :D :D

https://store.steampowered.com/app/367500/Dragons_Dogma_Dark_Arisen/ - this is my side project taking all my time nowadays :cD

Earlier when I was first learning development I would join forums and volunteer for every possible aid request. In some cases this turned out to either require a deep dive code analysis or testing of an entire product to be released rather than a small “how do I do this” question. I also worked on both IT support & hardware fixing, or new application builds for companies which colleagues & family passed onto me for money also.

I did this for 10-20 years to build experience but now just enjoy free time & stopped doing those so much. I’m learning the work-life balance more, trying to do as much training on the job then chill out when outside of work. Haven’t learnt that balance yet & still work far too much, but one day
