You're right! This is one of those questions where everyone’s perspective can lead to a completely different answer, which makes it so intriguing.
For me, it’s all about context. The answer I give today might be different from the one I’d give a year from now because experiences and challenges evolve. But that’s what makes these conversations so valuable—we get to learn from each other's viewpoints and grow in unexpected ways.

A person with adequate knowledge and skills for software testing techniques and tools then tests or debugs the software product or service in order to trace or confirm the product meets the requirements set and avoids any issues with functionality and overall setup of the product or service.
A software tester is person who can verify that the product or application is work as per the requirements and validating that what product or application is work as per expectation. And also finding a defect in the functionality of applications that impact usability and performance of application.
… someone who has been assigned this role. :-)
At best they are looking for problems in a product and report on that to people who matter.
